Liam in Ireland asks how does Image Search traffic compare to Web Search traffic?
On a busy site with badly named images, should I expect an increase in traffic if I give all images descriptive names? I probably would expect an increase in traffic if you have lots of page rank and everything else is in good shape.
The only thing you haven’t done is your image names are DSC, you know, 00528.jpeg.
I think it could help if you would give it a descriptive name instead. There are a lot of people who do image searches and so there are a lot of people who do well by having people land on them for image searches, especially if you, you know, sell stock photography or
something like that.
You can have, you know, sort of smaller thumbnails available. So a lot of people get interested in Web Search and they sort of neglect other properties, whether it be video, or images, or whatever.
So, I do think it's worth some attention, and having descriptive names help all search engines return or find that content better than if they just have an opaque completely esoteric, you know, number for the name of the image.
